About Karuizawa, Japan

Located just an hour away from Tokyo by Shinkansen, Karuizawa is a resort town located in the mountains of Nagano. Karuizawa has a pleasant atmosphere with chic restaurants and cafes aiming at affording patrons and with forested residential districts made up of holiday villas.
Shiraito Falls, located in the northern end of Karuizawa, is a spectacular spot to admire one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Japan.
The Shiraito Midwinter Light Up event is held from late December to early March. This winter display highlights the illuminated falls' contrast with the starry night sky on crisp winter evenings.
This main street of Karuizawa, Nagano, is generally called Kyu-karu Ginza or Karuizawa Ginza. This adorable strip of shops is one of the most historic in the region. The shopping street has a romantic ambiance and is suited for a stroll or for buying souvenirs and local desserts.
Kumobaike Pond, sometimes called “Swan Lake” because the swans tend to fly in winter, has stunning, changeable scenery throughout all four seasons. It is designed as more of a promenade surrounding the water, and is more of an aesthetic walk rather than a strenuous hike. A trip around the whole pond should take about twenty minutes.
